Tempted to buy an HDTV with PC input? Consider Vizio.

The joy of an HGTV with PC input! This is a great feature to have on your TV. If you don't, you are missing out! The Vizio VX32LHDTV10A is such an HDTV. Two things stand out for PC users:

  1. It has the RGB-PC input (VGA/SVGA) w/ audio connection to your PC's headphone jack
  2. split screen capability so you can watch TV and view computer content OR TV and some other home theater component like a DVD-recorder at the same time.

The TV has a remarkable PC image when connected to the laptop as you can see from the image. We have CNN.com and from The Lord of the Rings Trilogy: Two Towers. (If you are not familiar with connecting a PC to the TV, think of your place of employment when the corporate types connect their laptops to projectors for various presentations or a connection to a PC monitor). With this TV, you not only get the RGB-PC input, you get an audio-in jack.

I recommend you obtain a PC cable such as the MonoPrice Super VGA HD15 M/M 10ft CL2 Rated cable w/ Stereo Audio and Triple shielded (Gold Plated) for the PC to TV connection.

The split screen functionality is light years better than PIP. Just close your eyes and think of the TV viewing possibilities!

Here are a couple more photos of the split screen capability:
  1. Saving Grace on TNT and LOTR: Two Towers through a DVD-recorder.
  2. DirecTV's airing of "Night at the Museum" on FX and the DVDR player showing "LOTR: Two Towers."

There are other HDTV with split screen capability out there and the price range varies of course. The Vizio VX32LHDTV10A is a quality HDTV set at a good price. I know because there were excited screams on the other end of the phone when my sister purchased the TV (and she is the most budget conscious person I know...besides me). She got it at a great price after using a web software tool on top of the model year end pricing. With her savings, she was able to get her "g33k on" with some other electronic purchases.

If you were curious, Vizio did roll out the VO32LFHDTV10A and it is new for 2009. It is an upgrade over the VX32LHDTV10A so the concept is the same....PC input with audio and the addition of full HD.

So the next time you are in the market for a new TV in the "home office", consider an HDTV that will allow you:

  1. The RGB-PC input w/ audio connection to your PC's headphone jack
  2. Split screen capability so you can watch content at the same time in a similar sized window.
